Blog Post 2: Interest Groups
Interest groups
Interests groups are pretty much the lifeblood of today's political system. They are the ones who push policies to elected officials and then those officials, in turn, change the policies we want. They are usually very focused groups and focus on one issue to change. All of you are probably familiar with them in the form of lobbyist who fund many of the congress peoples campaigns. this funding, in turn, influences the person running to push the agenda of the interest groups, because who doesn't like money?
The interest group I decided to talk about this project was the Heritage Action for America(https://heritageaction.com). The groups' main mission is to uphold "the conservative policies that hold true to our Founding Fathers’ ideals." I guess they don´t care about the liberal policies that hold true to the found fathers' ideals. Anyways, it´s very obvious the groups' stance as a highly conservative interest group which is highlighted in the screenshot of their website below.
The purpose of this beginning section is to align themselves with a large number of conservatives in America. But how do we know? Many of their views that they express are similar to the core conservative values such as limited government regulation on busisness's, individual freedom, and a strong sense of national identity, and also they specifically state that they promise to advance "the conservative principles." To appeal even more to their "target demographic" the Heritage Action group repeatedly uses that terminology throughout their About page, not just in this one excerpt. One bias of this groups perspective could be their views towards immigration. They don't seem to speak on it in the excerpt and conservatives are known to generally have a strong feeling about immigration and making it harder for immigrants to come to the country, even if they're in need.
