Blog post 1:Political Ideology

  Political Ideology

According to the  Pew Research Center's political typology quiz, I'm a disaffected democrat, which I'm going to shorten to DD for the rest of this blog post because I don't really feel like typing that out each time. Alright, so now that the secrets out, what does that mean for me? Well, also according to the Pew Research Center, DD's are a group of Democrats who  "have very positive feelings toward the Democratic Party and its leading figures."() but they aren't really happy with how American politics are run in general and also feel like the government is inefficient, which is were the disaffected part comes in I guess?  Enough about what makes us disaffected or not, in this blog post I'm going to compare my typology groups beliefs with that of another, the Country First Conservatives. In general, along with being on the complete other side of the political spectrum, CFC's(Country First Conservatives) believe in small government, less immigration in the US, less involvement globally, and aren't really happy with the way America is being run right now, despite their support of trump.
I chose to compare DD's Policy with this group because they are both the minority group in their respective party. I'm going to compare the groups in three different policy areas to see if these two have anything in common and to see if we can find anything interesting from this data.

Government Wastefulness

For the first issue, I will be comparing is how they feel about government wastefulness. The data here is actually really interesting to me, I would have expected these two groups to be different in pretty much every way but, as we can see here, they actually have pretty similar scores. This kind of makes sense because both DD's and CFC's are both unhappy with how the government is being run right now, the only difference really being the support of the officials in charge. There isn't really much more to find from the data so let's move on to the next topic.

U.S. Role In The World

Now, this is where we can see the first major difference we can see between the two groups. Being on the more Liberal side of the spectrum, DD's would most likely be more willing to support the government going out of its way or maybe interfering where they shouldn't if they feel as if it would help people in need. CFC's, on the other hand, believe that the U.S. is "losing its cultural identity", which is why they wouldn't support the country funding support efforts of countries in need such as the war against ISIS in Syria.

America's Openness

The last policy area I will be comparing is how each group views immigration, or "America's openness". This is where the groups differ the most in ideology, from the points I compared, almost being completely opposite in the %'s. My hypothesis for why this is is that generally, CFC's come from an older generation of Republicans, those who witnessed 9/11 and supported Bush's action in Iraq. They are also generally less educated(make what you want from that). On the other hand, DD's, being more Liberal, would most definitely support immigration probably also in support of DACA.
